Dear clients,
Centrálny depozitár cenných papierov SR, a.s. (CDCP) would like to inform its clients that, in accordance with the amendment of REGULATION (EU) 2023/2845 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 13 December 2023 amending Regulation (EU) No 909/2014 as regards settlement discipline, cross-border provision of services, supervisory cooperation, provision of banking type ancillary services and requirements for third country central securities depositories and amending Regulation (EU) No. 236/2012, with effect from 15 March 2024, will require all issuers of book-entry securities to obtain a valid Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and deliver it to CDCP when placing any service request.
Until now, CDCP has required issuers to submit a valid LEI code only when registering new issues of book-entry securities. At the same time, CDCP advice the clients of the need to regularly renew the LEI code (once a year), as CDCP will not be able to consider an expired LEI code (LAPSED status) as valid.
Pursuant to the Regulation, a valid LEI code will be used as an issuer identifier in the records kept by the central depository on provided services and activities performed in accordance with the requirements of the Regulation. The LEI code is also used by the European regulators for supervision of proper reporting by financial services firms and to aggregate data from multiple markets.
Entities obliged to use the LEI code, or are interested in being assigned a LEI code for another reason, can submit an application to CDCP via dedicated website lei.cdcp.sk. The website provides clients with information and services related to allocation and management of LEI codes in a clear manner (lei.cdcp.sk). All CDCP services for LEI codes are provided fully electronically via the website.
